Joe DeVito Sends Us This Awesome Info! He And Brad Strickland Are At It Again!!!  The Images Get Better And Better!!!

There will be a new addition to the Kong mythos following on the heels of KONG: King of Skull Island. Brad Strickland and I have teamed up to do an extensive rewrite of the original KING KONG novel, titled Merian C. Cooper's KING KONG. It was completed months ago and will be published soon by St. Martin's Press: ISBN-13:978-0-312-34915-8.

It will be a 5.5" x 8.25" formatted softcover of about 192 pages (over 63,000 words), with a painted cover and several b&w interior illustrations.

Merian C. Cooper's KING KONG will retain the original 1930šs time frame, characters, and storyline. It will also add four new chapters and bring the paleontology up to date while making the story far more accessible. As with my prequel/sequel, KONG: King of Skull Island, this new novel has been written by special arrangement with the Merian C. Cooper estate and will perfectly synchronize with it for one contiguous storyline.

While the plot line and characters are unchanged, there are some very interesting additions to the original novel. These further nuance the storyline with which all Kong fans are so familiar. Brad and I hope it will be a worthy contribution to the overall Kong lore.

Big taste of Kong coming in cinemas

The public will get its first peek at Peter Jackson's $200 million King Kong on the big screen later this month.

The trailer will screen with Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds, which opens worldwide on June 29.

A spokeswoman for King Kong's New Zealand distributor, United International Pictures, said it was possible the trailer would also be shown online before June 29. A decision still had to be made.

When the trailer for The Fellowship of the Ring went online in 2000 it broke records by being viewed 1.67 million times in 24 hours.

The Dominion Post understands that crew at Jackson's Wellington studios have been busy editing the trailer in recent weeks.

Jay Found This Info About The 33 DVD Release!

It's a jungle out there
U's 200-pound gorilla faces restored 'Kong'

By GABRIEL SNYDER

By the time Universal releases Peter Jackson's vision of "King Kong" on Dec. 14, the first DVD edition of the original 1933 pic is expected to be on store shelves.

Except it won't have a Universal logo on it.

Warner Bros. has long been working on restoring the pic for DVD release. Although it hasn't announced when the DVD will go on sale, it is expected to be near Jackson's "Kong."

In the runup to the release of its monster-mash "Van Helsing" last summer, U tried a similar gambit, releasing "Legacy Collection" editions of the classic Frankenstein, Wolf Man, and Dracula pics that had inspired helmer Stephen Sommers So how did the classic "Kong" end up with Warners and Jackson's "Kong" with U?

Rights to the 1933 film seem to have passed through nearly every studio's hands over the years.

The original "Kong" was produced by RKO Radio Pictures. But after RKO exited the studio bizbiz in 1957 and sold its lot to Desilu, most of its library, including "Kong," was bought by United Artists, which was in turn acquired by MGM.

Turner BroadcastingTurner Broadcasting bought MGM's library in 1986, but 10 years later it merged with Time WarnerTime Warner, delivering rights to the original "Kong" to Warner Bros.

(In another twist, the 1976 remake of "Kong" was produced by Paramount, which had acquired the old RKO lot when it bought Desilu.)

Universal didn't have to license the character from Warners first because the Jackson pic is not, it says, a remake. And besides, the actual "Kong" character (though obviously not the original film) is now in the public domain.

So, if you think you can do a better job than Peter Jackson armed with a $150 million budget, feel free to give it a whirl.
